Abbas Kazerounian is one of the founding partners at Kazerouni Law Group, APC. Mr. Kazerounian’s areas of specialty are consumer rights and class actions (specializing in consumer rights class actions).
In 2013 and 2014 Mr Abbas Kazerounian was selected by his peers as a Super Lawyers Rising Star, a prestigious recognition given to only 2.5% of the attorneys in the state. He was also voted as a Rising Star by the San Diego Daily Transcript in 2012.Mr. Kazerounian has litigated over 1000 individual consumer rights cases, mainly using the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) and the California Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (RFDCPA).
Mr. Kazerounian is regarded as a one of the predominant TCPA (Telephone Consumer Protection Act), FDCPA and RFDCPA practitioners in California. His depth of experience and knowledge in this practice area along with his trial skills, make Mr. Kazerounian one of the premiere advocates within this field of law. He prides himself with being a creator of law in continuing interpretations of the TCPA, FDCPA and RFDCPA and will take cases as far as possible to advocate for consumers in both California and the United States.
Mr. Kazerounian also has pending cases before the Ninth Circuit and the California Court of Appeals. He recently argued before the Ninth Circuit in the seminal case of Knutson v. Sirius XM Radio. Mr. Kazerounian has been lead counsel in over 200 national class actions in the last 5 years. This includes class actions against some of the nation’s largest banks, credit card companies and other fortune 500 companies.
The majority of Mr. Abbas Kazerounian’s class action experience is in litigation involving TCPA, FDCPA, RFDCPA, CA Penal Code 630, et seq., CA Business and Professions Code §17200, et seq. and misrepresentation cases. Mr. Kazerounian was part of the class actionArthur v. Sallie Mae, et al, which was finally approved as one the largest TCPA class action settlement in US jurisprudence history and also Malta, et al. v Wells Fargo, which was the second highest cash settlement in TCPA Class action history. More recently Mr. Kazerounian was counsel on the case of Rose v. Bank of America, which was preliminarily approved for $34,000,000.
Mr. Kazerounian was named by the CA Bar Journal in 2010 as a CA plaintiff attorney with one of the largest products liability settlements against a major international car manufacturer. The settlement was for $2,500,000.00. Lancaster mayor Rex Parris also awarded Mr. Kazerounian with a distinguished certificate for assisting consumers for the same case. The same is true for the Malta case in 2013 and the Rose case in 2014. Mr. Kazerounian prides himself in his creative ability to create unique idiosyncratic solutions for each one of his clients by forcing defendants into positions where they try to settle cases rather than try cases against his clients.
However, if push comes to shove, Mr. Kazerounian is no stranger to the courtroom. Mr. Kazerounian has tried over 12 bench and jury trials just in the last 18 months alone. Creditors widely know that Mr. Kazerounian will try cases and for that very reason, the majority of Mr. Kazerounian’s cases come to an early resolution.
Though Mr. Kazerounian’s personal philosophy is to always proactively prevent future dispute, many clients retain him for litigation purposes. Mr. Kazerounian litigates many of the firm’s major civil litigation cases in both state and federal court. He is currently litigating against numerous internationally known entities in high stakes disputes. Mr. Kazerounian attended the University of Plymouth, U.K., where he received his bachelor of arts in English Literature & Theatre and Performance. He then received his masters from the prestigious London Academy of Performing Arts. Subsequently Mr. Kazerounian received his Juris Doctor from California Western School of Law in San Diego, CA.
